Synapse Contemporary Dance Theater l Nov. 2-3, 2019

Hi my name is Mark Tomasic. I’m an Associate Professor of Dance at Santa
Monica College, and I’m a co-director of Synapse Contemporary Dance Theater. Synapse is one of two performing ensembles
we have in the Dance Department at SMC. Synapse is a contemporary performing ensemble
that involves faculty choreographers, student choreographers, as well as guest artists. My name is Jae Lee. I’m an Associate Professor of Dance at Santa
Monica College and also a director of Synapse Contemporary Dance Theater. We have been inviting choreographers from
Alvin Ailey, BodyTraffic, and this specific semester we’re honored to invite one of the
legendary choreographies from Mr. Donald McKayle. It’s called “Songs of the Disinherited.” So we’re very honored to present the masterpiece
within Synapse Dance Theater this semester. This semester I’ve had the wonderful, amazing,
out-of-this-world opportunity to dance in Donald McKayle’s piece. He’s a legend in the dance world and words
can’t express how fortunate I am to have this experience and to do the solo for this piece
this semester.
