Pacific Fine Arts Festival

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. ARTISTS ARE GOING TO BE UP IN TURKEY THIS MORNING TO SHOW OFF THEIR TALENTS. — TRUCKEE THIS MORNING TO SHOW OFF THEIR TALENTS. Reporter: THIS IS A SWEET STUDIO. HE SAYS, HE DID NOT THINK SO BUT I AM SURPRISED THERE ARE NOT MORE CERAMIC POTTERY STUFF EVERYWHERE. IT TURNS UP LIKE SPLATTERS. BUT THIS IS NEAT. THIS IS A COUNT AND ANY — AND IT HAS A COUPLE OF PIECES ALREADY. JOHN, TELL EVERYBODY. I ASKED HIM HOW LONG IT TAKES TO FINISH A PIECE AND WHAT WAS YOUR RESPONSE? IT IS HARD TO FIGURE OUT EACH INDIVIDUAL PIECE SO THE BEST ANSWER I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO COME UP WITH IS FIVE MINUTES, FIVE WEEKS AND 40 YEARS. Reporter: HE ACTUALLY STARTED OUT IN COMMUNITY COLLEGE CLASS DOING CLASSES AND HE DID NOT KNOW IF THIS WAS WHAT HE WANTED TO DO. HE TOOK ONE CLASS AND WAS HOOKED YOUR SO TELL ME A LITTLE BIT ABOUT HOW YOU DESCRIBE YOUR WORK AND WHAT YOU WILL BE BERNING OUT TO THE TRUCKEE SHOW THIS WEEKEND. ALL OF THE WORK I DO IS USE BOTH UTILITARIAN TYPES OF THINGS. THAT I HAVE SOME UNUSUAL THINGS LIKE LOCKS AND THINGS LIKE THAT HERE BUT IT IS ALL VERY USEFUL. HANDMADE, STONEWARE, POTTERY. WHAT IS IT THAT YOU LOVE THE MOST ABOUT PAINTING? WE ARE TALKING ABOUT THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN CERAMIC AND POTTERY. WHAT IS IT THAT DRAWS YOU TO THIS PARTICULAR FORM OF ART? I DON’T KNOW. I NEVER REALLY GAVE IT SERIOUS THOUGHT. I JUST LIKE WHAT I AM DOING AND IT ALLOWS ME TO USE MY MANUAL DEXTERITY SKILLS IN MAKING THE POT AND FINISHING IT UP WITH SOME NICE ARTWORK. AND IT IS JUST A WONDERFUL LIFE. IT IS A HARD WAY TO MAKE A LIVING BUT IT IS A WONDERFUL LIFE. WOULD — WE DID NOT GET TO SHOW IT BECAUSE IT GETS A LITTLE MESSY BUT I WANTED YOU TO TAKE A LOOK AT HIS FEET. THE FEW TIMES I HAVE DONE CERAMICS, IT HAS BEEN ELECTRIC AND YOU ACTUALLY CHOOSE TO DO A WILL. WHY IS THAT? IS A NATURAL PROCESS — IT IS A NATURAL PROCESS. WHEN YOU FIRST START THROWING, YOU NEED A LOT OF SPEED IN ORDER TO CENTER THE CLAY AND GET THE INITIAL PROCESS STARTED. AND AS YOU GET INTO THE PROCESS AND START REFINING THE SHAPE, YOU NEEDED TO BE GOING A LITTLE BIT SLOWER AND THERE IS JUST SOMETHING NATURAL ABOUT DOING A KICK WILL. THIS PARTICULAR ONE, THE CADILLAC OF TWO QUILLS SO IT KEEPS GOING AND GOING BUT IT IS A GOOD ONE AND AS LONG AS MY LEGS WERE, I WILL CONTINUE TO DO IT THAT WAY. I BET THEY WILL BE WORKING A LONG TIME AND IF YOU GUYS ARE INTERESTED, HE WILL BE OUT AT THE HISTORIC TRUCKEE AREA FOR THE PACIFIC FINE ARTS FESTIVAL THIS WEEKEND. ALL OF THE DETAILS ARE ON OUR WEBSITE AND IF YOU NEED MORE
