  1. I'm going to assume you have an entire room of random items for repairs. There are so many different methods and items used for this it boggles my mind. Awesome videos!

  2. A question as a fan ,,,, if this painting were for example a Rembrandt, would you have changed anything in the way you restored it ? I Don't wish to imply that you have different qualities of restoration work, I am sure that you treat them all like Rembrandts ,,, but from a technical point of view I mean ,,,

  3. Conspiracy theory: Julian Baumgartner and Chris Morocco from BA's test kitchen are long lost twins

  4. Not sure if this has been answered before, but I am wondering how the solvent you use to remove varnish and linseed oil does not dissolve the paint underneath.

Love the vids by the way. Please keep them coming. Liked and subbed!

  5. Julian, you should really release ASMR versions of your restorations. I know I would definitely enjoy it as I'm sure a lot more of your current and future subscribers.

  8. Why does he remove the warp before laminating the belgian linen strips to the canvas? Is it to reduce the thickness?

  9. Thank you for sharing your skills, I love the whole process and would love to do this work myself β€πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§

  10. There is something deeply satisfying and soothing, about watching this channel’s videos. To see the light and curiosity in the child’s eyes and the adoring gentle smile of his mother revealed beneath all that grime is just wonderful.

  11. I have binged a few of your videos today. I would like to think that your legacy is not the youtube viewers like myself – but you are setting a standard for other conservators, and yes I am sure there are many who are already there – but there are many who are not. Well done.

  12. I can just imagine the look on the next conservator's face when he takes off the varnish and resin and conservator's paint and finds that he now gets to re-do 500 little dots all over the painting. ;'D

  13. Sorry but that is so sexy…. I feel bit freaked out but damn that knowledge, handling of that magentic hammer and in general the way that guy works is so hot

  14. "The tacking edge is frayed"
Me: belgian linen is what this needs
    "So I'll use belgian linen"
Guys I watch too many of these

  15. thank you for taking the time to narrate these videos. seeing the restoration work is already fantastic, but it is even more wonderful to hear detailed explanations of the process, information about materials and technique involved, and your personal expertise and passion with art restoration.

  16. I have a question that I'm not sure you'd like to answer, because I wonder if you'd worry that it's damaging to your reputation as a conservator to speak on the subject? But I'm so curious if you've ever messed up and accidentally damaged a client's painting beyond fixing…Like, maybe just dropping it, or perhaps earlier when you were still learning this craft. As always, thank you for these videos, they're so fascinating and it's wonderful that you carry on such a marvelous skill/tradition!

  17. Did you ever just had a slip and the whole painting was full with painting? Or put varnish on to early or something like that?

  18. Your videos became my newest obsession
They are all I’ve been watching on my study breaks

  20. People always say thatt art majors have it easy and they're not gonna do anything with it, but my dude Baumgartner is literally talking about molecular weight. Oh my god.

  21. I got to say I’m sort of new to watching your videos but man! They are amazingly made! And your work is incredible. Thank you for make these videos.

  22. Is he single?
I'm not like those thirsty I want him, kind of commenter, but I just want to see what his partner thinks of this if he has one…
I wonder what it feels like to have a conservator partner.

  23. You: this is a delicate process

Also you:*whips out fabric and slams it against the table* vary delicate process πŸ™‚

  24. Is there a chance in a hundred years conservationists will look at your work and say β€œhow brutish, I cant believe he did that, what kind of cavemen were conserving paintings back then!?”
