-All right, so check this out. Also, it’s a big day for me.
I’m very excited about this. I had this idea. I always have
these silly ideas, right? And so I had this idea probably
over a year ago. I was in — in my backyard,
and I was thinking — when I’m waiting online
or whatever, I always —
I have my sunglasses. I usually, like, spin them
or something like that. I’m just waiting.
Kind of fidgety or whatever. And it just never —
I was saying, “I wonder if someone could
actually put, like, a little — like a ball bearing
or some type of thing on the arm of the sunglasses
so you can get a good –” [ Whooshes ]
[ Light laughter ] I wanna get a good —
[ Whooshes ] Get a good whip to it, you know?
-[ Imitates whip crack ] -Anyway, so I heard the guys
that started Warby Parker on this podcast called
“How I Built This” with Guy Raz. And it’s a great podcast
if you haven’t heard it. But anyways, I listen to it all
the time. I love it. And I heard these guys talking.
They just came from — They just started up —
started themselves. They’re just nice guys.
I go, “You know what? I’m gonna send them a video of
my idea and say, ‘Hey, guys, I don’t know if you can
see this, or whatever, or if you read this email,
but I have this idea where you whip the sunglasses
around and whatever. You’re just waiting online. I just think that you could put
a little hinge or something.'” Anyway, so, I didn’t hear back.
So it’s just good. It’s fine. [ Laughter ]
No big deal. -No big deal.
-I’d say probably a month later, I get an email from Neil
at Warby Parker. And it’s some video. And I couldn’t get the video
to open on my phone or whatever, so I’m trying to
forward it so I can open it. I open it up, it’s this really
funny video of him going through the offices
of Warby Parker, and everybody in the office is
pretending to spin sunglasses. They all have “Tonight Show”
on their laptop and everything. It was really —
it was a funny video. And he’s like, “Let’s talk.”
So I go, “Okay.” So we started talking about it. And this is
a year and a half later. And, ladies and gentlemen…

[ Cheering ] They are called —
they are called — they’re called Spinnies,
okay? Now they’re available now
at all Warby Parker stores and at warbyparker.com. They’re a limited amount.
There’s only 4,000 made. But here’s the best part
of this. 100% of every Spinnies purchase goes directly to
Pupils Project. Okay? This is a program —
[ Cheers and applause ] Wait till you hear.

that Warby Parker founded that provides free —
free vision screenings, eye exams, and glasses
to schoolchildren in the U.S. through public private

[ Applause ] So if you’re not
fortunate enough to be able to go to an eye doctor,

‘Cause you probably think — the last thing you’d think
about, if your kid’s at school not doing well at school
or struggling, is that they can’t see. A lot of people just don’t —
they don’t have the money or they just don’t even
think about that. But now, with glasses,
you can go, “Oh, he just couldn’t see
the board.” I just think it’s
a beautiful thing. Who would have thought
something so great would come out of such a dumb idea
like this? [ Laughter and applause ]
